Reading: We have now completed the alphabet. The students now know all the letters from a-z and the short vowels: a, e, i, o, and u. We are now focused on blending all the letters and sounds into words. The DIBELS test will be the end of this month.
Math: We have worked on addition from 0 to 10. Most students are now moving past using manipulatives and fingers to memorizing their facts. Our next unit is on subtraction. We will again focus on the facts from 0 to 10.
Writing: Students are now expected to write a sentence to go with their picture. They should start writing their own thoughts using phonetic spelling.
Science: The science unit we are working on is wood and paper. We have identified where wood and paper come from and how to use the products to make things. Learning where things come from is an important skill. Talk with your child how things are made and what resources are used to make them.
JumpStart: We will be offering a 10 day
getting ready for 1st grade session this summer. Students are invited
to review their reading and math skills while getting a head start on 1st
grade. The dates of the Jump Start are Aug. 12 to Aug. 23. It
will be from 9:00 in the morning until 11:30. Parents must provide their
own transportation to and from the school. Let your teacher know if you
want your child enrolled in Jump
Start.
