Naval Avenue Early Learning Center is one of only 11 schools in the nation recognized by the Foundation for Child Development as a Pre K through 3rd grade school. Students at Naval Avenue Early Learning Center have access to a comprehensive Preschool through third grade educational experience. Our highly qualified staff continues to actively participate in early childhood professional development to refresh and update their skills to meet the individual needs of our students.
Each morning at Naval the day starts with classical music as the students enter the building. We have a before-school tutoring program called the SMART club (Supplemental Math And Reading Time) and the Sunrise Club for students who excel.
At Naval Avenue Early Learning Center, the students set monthly academic goals which are shared at a school-wide assembly. The idea of goal setting is based on the research of Dr. Jeff Howard, President of the Efficacy Institute. At Naval we are creating classrooms and family-friendly environments where we teach young children that their success depends on the level and quality of their effort. We want every child to have the confidence they need to approach any new task and further their academic success.
Naval has developed strong partnerships with professionals in our community. Our students benefit daily from the expertise of science mentors from PSNS, the Bremerton Rotary, trained Americorp Volunteers, and the Boys and Girls Club. Last year, the very first Spanish Immersion Kindergarten program was started at Naval Ave. Students from all over Kitsap County attend Kindergarten where they read, write, and speak in Spanish. This program will be expanded for the 2008-2009 school year to include both kindergarten and first grade.
You may notice some significant changes to our outside area this year. We are working with our District Health and Fitness staff, the City of Bremerton, Kitsap Community Resources Head Start, Lions Club, and PTA to develop an outdoor Family Fitness Center. Our hope is that this will be used all year round by students and our neighborhood community families.
You may notice many visitors when you come to Naval. We have been asked by Washington State to help other school districts develop a PK-3rd grade early learning focus. We welcome you to visit us as well. Feel free to contact us if you would like to know more about early learning at Naval Avenue Early Learning Center.
