DISTRICT NEWS

Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan

The District has and is still continuing to participate in the Kitsap County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan, as are all other Kitsap County school districts. The plan is being updated to ensure consistency with the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. The last time the profile was updated was in 2004. We have since updated the Bremerton School District profile to include the addition and deletion of buildings and other critical infrastructure from the 2004 list. The final update has yet to be submitted by Kitsap County to the State of Washington, but the profile required updating prior to this submission. This process is required to qualify for FEMA funds if there is a Federal Disaster declaration. A public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, February 4, 2010, at the Regular School Board meeting; 5:00 pm in the Administration Building.

Grad Gown Exchange Program

If your former BHS grad left her or his graduation gown behind, you've probably been wondering what to do with it. We have a GOLDen opportunity for you to do something green, or should we say BLUE? Clear out a little closet space and drop it by BHS to Deann Irish in the Career Center at the High School.  Our newly created Grad Gown Exchange program will pass it on to a BHS Senior who will happily make good use of it and then pass it on to be shared again.

Parent Reminder for the Second Dose of H1N1 Vaccination

Parents of children under 10 are reminded to get the second dose of the H1N1 vaccination if they have not already done so.  The American Academy of Pediatrics recently reported that nearly 80% of all children under the age of 10 who received the first dose of the H1N1 vaccination are over due for their second.  Parents should realize the importance of the timing of the second dose to provide the greatest amount of protection.  Thank you for your help in keeping our children healthy.

The Flu Season is Here!

As we feared, the flu season has started early this year.  We have been diligently tracking every absence in our schools and are reporting our findings to the Kitsap County Health District as required.  We report statistics to the Health District when a school is above 10% absenteeism. We want to assure you that we are taking critical steps daily working with our custodial staff to keep our buildings as germ-free as possible by providing additional surface cleaning.  Learn More
