Winter Weather Communication

Winter Weather Communication

Stay informed and prepared for winter weather emergencies. Learn about our communication protocols and how we will keep you updated during inclement weather conditions.

Winter Weather Communication

We make every effort to make the decision about school closures due to winter weather by 5:30 a.m. We will communicate information and updates about weather impacts on school via:

Important: We do not send out early morning "robo calls" for snow days or winter weather delays. If a decision is made to delay or cancel school the night before, we will notify families and staff via ParentSquare and robo call that evening.

Please see the information below for details on school delays and closures.

Know Before You Go!

  • If you wake up and it is snowing, or you hear about snow or icy road conditions anywhere in Kitsap County, we encourage you to check ParentSquare, email, the District website, news media, and/or social media for updates before leaving for school!
  • No news is good news! If you don't see information about a delay or closure from any of the sources noted on this page, it means schools and buses are on a regular schedule!

Flash Alert Notifications

Parent/Guardians will receive notifications about weather-related schedule changes via ParentSquare.  We use Flash Alert to send weather-related notifications to local media and to others outside of our school system.  Anyone can sign-up for Flash Alert and receive notifications via text or email.

  1. Login or create and account on the Flash Alert Website
  2. Search for Kitsap and Mason County Schools;
  3. Select Bremerton School District;
  4. Follow the subscription prompt to receive a Flash Alert message from our school district.

School Closures & Delays Details

  • Often Kitsap County experiences icy conditions overnight and into the morning that clear-up as the temperatures increase in the morning. In these cases, the Bremerton School District may operate on a 2-hour delayed start. On days when the District is on a 2-hour delay:

    • All schools will open two hours late.

    • Buses will operate on regular routes but on a two-hour delay.

    • No out-of-district transportation.

    • Meals:

      • Breakfast will not be served at any school.

      • Lunch will be served on the regular schedule.

      • No meals will be available for pick-up and meals will not be sent home with students.

    • No morning pre-K.

    • YMCA Y-Kids and Right At School will open at 8 a.m. (rather than 6 a.m.)

    • West Sound Technical Skills Center: No a.m. session / afternoon session on-schedule.

    • After-school sports and activities will be held as scheduled unless otherwise communicated by the coach, school or district.

    • Schools will end at the regularly scheduled time (view school hours here).

    • If we have a 2-hour delayed start on a Wednesday, it will be a full school day (no early release).

    2-hour delay start times:

  • In the event of a "snow day" or a school closure due to inclement weather in the Bremerton School District:

    • School buildings are closed.

    • The day will not count as a school day (so we will be required to make the day up at the end of the school year!).

    • District facilities will be closed for outside use/rentals unless otherwise commmunicated.

    • YKids, Right At School, and the Boys & Girls Club before/after school programs are canceled.
