Assessment

At Bremerton School District, we use assessments to improve teaching and learning. This helps us meet the needs of our students and staff.

State & Federal Assessments

Bremerton School District conducts federal and state assessments annually, including:

  • Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) –  For grades 3-8 and high school in English language arts and math.
  • Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS) – For grades 3, 8, and high school.
  • Washington Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills (WaKIDS) – For kindergarten students, as part of the district’s full-day kindergarten program.
  • World-Class Instruction and Design Assessment (WIDA) – For select students learning English.

Parents and guardians can access student assessment results on Skyward under the “portfolio” tab.

Assessment Updates & Announcements

6/20/26: Smarter Balanced Summative Assessment results now available

Results are now available for students in grades 3-8 and grade 10 who participated in the Smarter Balanced Assessments (state testing) this spring.  

To access your student’s test results, log-into Skyward and click on the “portfolio” tab on the left menu bar. These results are NOT in the “test scores” section. 

To understand more information about these tests and results you can access the OSPI Understanding Your Score Report website.  For assistance accessing Skyward or to request a printed copy or an ADA-compliant version of these reports, please contact our student data team at 360-473-1069 or by email at Student.Data@BremertonSchools.org. 

SEL Screening

Bremerton School District is committed to supporting every student's social, emotional, and behavioral well-being. SEL screening provides school staff with valuable information about how students are feeling, interacting with others, and engaging at school.

The results help schools better understand student needs at both the individual and school-wide levels. This information is used to create supportive learning environments, identify students who may benefit from additional support, and guide school-wide planning to help all students succeed.

Families who do not want their child to participate in the SEL screening may opt out by contacting their child's homeroom teacher or school counselor before September 7, 2026.  The teacher or counselor will explain the opt-out process and ensure the student is not included in the screening.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • iReady tests are used in reading and math and teachers create tests to check progress. For more details, see our Assessment Framework.

  • Parents and guardians can access student assessment results on Skyward*.

  • The OSPI Report Card includes state and federally-mandated assessment results and data. You can look up school report cards on OSPI’s website or find it on your child’s school website.

  • Yes, fill out the Assessment Refusal form each year you want your child excused and return to your child’s school.
